Where's the stuff?
Welcome to the Airhead Salvage Website.
Note Effective September 2007
I still have a full-time job, but it no longer requires me to be outside.  The schedule is variable, so I cannot predict from one week to the next when I will be home or at work.  So email remains the best way to contact me.  I do have a cell phone that handles email so I can check it throughout the day.  For those of you who have asked, things are going much better.  Thanks.

NOTE EFFECTIVE JULY 2006
I have begun working a full time job that requires me to be at work before the crack of dawn and work outside all day.  I am seldom available by phone anymore.  I can also seldom return calls at a time that would meet your schedule.  In addition, I have some personal issues that are taking time as well.  It is best that you contact me via email.  I can respond to those messages in a timely fashion.

I am packing and shipping a couple of days a week.  So it may be a little longer before I can get your parts to you.

I am Mike Hamende, and I am Airhead Salvage. Airhead Salvage collects and sells used parts for BMW Motorcycles. I primarily focus on airheads, but have quite a number of K-Bikes as well, and a couple of oilheads. Airhead Salvage is one man operation. I collect bikes and parts, travel the country to get them, take bikes apart, take photos of parts, store the parts, list some on ebay, respond to phone calls and emails, maintain my website, and ship parts all over the world.

I communicate with customers and vendors via email and phone. I am often working on taking bikes apart or with another customer and am unable to answer the phone. If you call and get the answering machine, please leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. It is far better for both of us if you communicate your needs to me via email. Of course if you do not use computers, call.

I bought my first BMW, my second motorcycle, a R60/6 in 1977. I have had a variety of BMWs over the years. I also roadraced Yamahas in the late 70s. I was not very fast, but I was persistent.

Even though I have many years of experience with motorcycles, I am not a mechanic, nor do I know everything about every model and every part.

Selling used parts sight unseen over the Internet or via phone is not the easiest way to conduct business. It does allow me to have a world wide market. There are occasional misunderstandings and miscommunications about parts. I almost always accept returns and offer refunds. If the mistake is mine, I also pay return postage.

All parts, except those sold “as is” are guaranteed to work. While this is the case, please recognize that you are purchasing 30 year old USED parts. If you need restoration or new quality parts, please order them from the dealers or Mobile Traditions. I cannot provide pristine or new parts at the typical 25%-50% of retail at which I typically sell parts.

Usually I sell parts at 1/2 of the current retail. Some things that are no longer available new and are in high demand will sell for more. Some in less demand and quite common will sell for less.

Airhead Salvage is a small business operated by one guy in central Texas. I work hard to bring you parts to keep your BMW on the road at prices far below those the dealers ask for new. I am not big and I am not perfect, but I try very hard to meet your needs and want you to come back when you need more parts.

If you are not happy about your experience with me, I would like to know. If I quote you a price that is too high, like close to new, ask about it. There may be a reason or I might not be aware of the price of that particular part. I am happy to modify a quote under such circumstances.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you find what you need.

Mike Hamende
